Category Symptoms Possible Solutions
Buzz
  • High frequency buzz when playing notes in high treble
Some pianos have a decal or medalian attached to the cast iron frame/plate. Sometimes this can come loose near the edges of the decal or medalian, causing it to sympathetically vibrate. Push down on decal or medalian edges to check for buzzes.
Buzz
  • Short buzz sound as note is played from middle notes (#20 - #50)
If trichord felt is on the long side, it can wisk by the strings as the key is being pressed because the felt hangs low between the strings. Although this happens before the attack, because of timing it can sometimes seem to happen at the same time the note sounds. This can be common on old pianos because of wear on the damperfelts, or occur on new pianos because the felt wasn't trimmed properly in the factory. Trimming damper felt to correct length and shape will fix this.
Humidifier
  • Client calls back days after humidifier install to say "the system's power light is not on, or the system is not on"
When installing a humidifer system, make sure the outlet it is plugged into is not connected to a light switch the client turns off after you leave.
action failure
  • Upright
  • Note does not play sometimes
  • Note stops playing at random and then works again
Bridle strap can get hooked around the large eyelet of the let off button adjustment, causing it to hold the whipen up above the capstan.
